Woosun Choi is a visual artist from Seoul, South Korea, based in Nottingham,UK. She paints on canvas with oils and works on digitally too.

Her practice centres on externalising personal emotions through fictional characters, each of whom represents a part of herself. Through painting, she extends self-portraiture beyond physical likeness, allowing feelings, memories, and internal conflicts to take on bodies and identities of their own.

Drawing on ordinary experiences and her life in the UK, she transforms familiar objects and situations into imagined realities. Playful figures, vivid colours, and theatrical settings become ways to explore vulnerability, belonging, and the tension between private feelings and public expectations.

Although these scenes emerge from personal experience, they also consider the social and political pressures that shape how people understand and present themselves. She explores how everyday encounters reveal questions of acceptance, visibility, and conformity. By placing aspects of herself within fictional worlds, she creates space to examine these pressures and ask how identity is negotiated through relationships with others and the environments in which we all live.
